Insomnia is the condition of not being able to sleep.  Acupuncture theory describes many different energetic imbalances which can result in insomnia.  Possible syndromes are Heart Blood Deficiency, Heart & Kidney Yin Deficiency, Empty Heat Harassing the Mind, and so on.  We need sleep for its restorative powers, both physically and mentally.  The body carries out many healing and maintenance processes while we sleep.  Not only do we feel tired after a sleepless night, but long term lack of sleep will predispose us to illness.

Who has acupuncture for insomnia?

Pop star and actress Toyah Willcox has recenty started having regular acupuncture treatment for insomnia with her acupuncturist Catherine Quinn, MBAcC, a condition that has troubled her since teenage years. Previously, in her 30’s, she had used acupuncture for pain relief for a hip problem, including post operative pain.

The video below is a clip from BBC1 Breakfast news with Maureen Cromey MBAcC talking about using acupuncture to treat insomnia.
