Covid-19 Update
The British Acupuncture Council have reviewed the new government guidelines issued on 23rd June and are advising members that from Saturday 4th July members will be able to open for careful practice. This will vary for different regions of the UK. In England the position is that we can open to treat patients for all medical conditions both chronic and urgent – with appropriate PPE and abiding by our Covid-19 secure guidelines (see below).
I have written some posts to set out some new practices and processes to ensure as far as possible your safety during this continuing time of threat from Covid-19. For the duration of the epidemic I ask patients to fill in a Covid-19 consent and screening form, prior to each treatment. Clinically vulnerable people will especially have to weigh the risks vs benefits of complementary treatments. You can read what measures we are taking to keep you safe, and what measures we are asking of you.

Beginnings
Jamie Gisby began his career by studying pharmacology at University College London in the early eighties. My scientific background has given me a good grounding in understanding and assessing the scientific literature. I love to keep up to date with science but realised that lab work was not the right path for me. Whilst at university I got into yoga, meditation and Eastern philosophy and felt a strong tug to move in that direction. I friend suggested I should study acupuncture. Not knowing what it was I read one of the few books available back then, and I was totally hooked.
Acupuncture
After graduating I combined my medical interest with a fascination for Chinese philosophy by studying acupuncture. I now have over 30 years of clinical experience. I practice both modern and traditional styles of acupuncture. This includes both 5-element and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) styles. Photobiomodulation (PBT) therapy is a needle-free way of stimulating acupuncture points, tendons, joints and muscle trigger points. PBT is a special light therapy which is gaining a lot of support from both the clinical and research communities. PBT is great for those who don’t like needles. Not only that but it widens the scope and depth of an acupuncture treatment. I provide both private acupuncture and acupuncture for the NHS (through local charitable funding).
Allergy & Environmental Therapy
I studied allergy and environmental therapy as I found more and more of my patients were suffering from allergies, food intolerance and chemical sensitivities. Often it is our diet and lifestyle that stands in the way of our healing and I work with my clients to help them optimise this in every way we can. As well as doing allergy testing with kinesiology I conduct a thorough clinical history and use the most up to date understanding of modern nutrition. This is balanced by my understanding of Classical Chinese dietetics.
