Two new research results flag up these dangers. University of California scientists have found that triclocarbon, a compound found in most antibacterial soaps, enters the bloodstream via the skin, and mimics the male sex hormone testosterone. The body responds by shutting down its own production of testosterone. Trilocarban is also found in toothpast, face wash and deoderant.
Sheffield university researchers have discovered a link between sodium benzoate, a soft drink preservative, and degenerative diseases such a Parkinson's and cirrhosis of the liver. When mixed with vitamin C they found that sodium benzoate creates benzene, a potent carcinogen.
