The surgical team performed electro-acupuncture using six needles placed in the chest and wrist of the 78-year old patient. A small amount of intravenous medication was given to maintain the effects of the anaesthetic. The doctors claim that the acupuncture method shortens recovery time, limits postoperative complications and is less expensive than conventional anaesthesia.
