Acupuncture better than injections for back pain |

26 patients were randomly allocated to either acupuncture or local anaesthetic injection at two to five of the most painful points on the lower back once per week for four weeks. Both injection and acupuncture relieved pain, but there was a significant difference between the two groups regarding pain scores, with acupuncture providing more pain relief than injection at all time points measured (immediately before the first treatment, before each subsequent treatment, and at two and four weeks after completion of treatment).
