Acupuncture is a popular treatment for people wanting to stop smoking and I find that it works very well for many of my patients. It does however need people to have a real desire and commitment to stop. I use a combination of body acupuncture and ear-acupuncture (auriculotherapy). Acupuncture can help other substance abuse, such as to alcohol and opiates. I have had success with both but real help is required from other sources, whether that be medical, counselling, or a 12 step program.
