Diet and Lifestyle Websites, Blogs and Podcasts:

Whitfield Farm Organics

Grass fed beef reared naturally and traditionally hung for a minimum of three weeks to give flavour and texture.  Grass fed beef has a much better ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids; or in other words, it contains more omega-3.  The overal ration of omega-3 to -6 is crucial for good health.  The ration should be around 1:1 or 1:2 but typically in modern Western diets it is around 1:10 or even higher.  This drives inflammation in the body leaving us vulnerable to a host of chronic diseases.  Whitfield Farm Organics can supply via online ordering or you can visit them at the Cheltenham and Stroud farmers markets; see their website for details.

Cullimores Organics

Cullimores have been organic for 20 years and produce grass fed saltmarsh beef and lamb and organic pork.  They sell by mail order or you can find them at Gloucester Farmer’s Market on a Friday morning.

I recently found ‘Natural Food Finder’ on Google.   This is a truly excellent resource for finding real food in the UK.  It was this site that helped be find Whitfield Farm Organics, whose grass fed beef is wonderful.  You can search the site for local grass fed beef, raw unpasteurised milk, and much more.Natural Food Finder is clearly a work of love and passion and they are to be congratulated on this great service.

Some great podcasts by Robb Wolf, author of ‘The Paleo Solution’, can be found at:

www.robbwolf.com

Robb has some great information on his site, including a ‘get started’ guide to the paleo diet and how to modify the basic paleo diet if you suffer from autoimmune disease.  Robb runs one of the top gyms in America and his podcasts include a lot of information on diet and exercise; especially about strength and conditioning and cross-fit.

Robb Wolf’s 30 Day Total Transformation – Interactive eBook Guide

Top blogger, Mark Sissons, can be found at Marks Daily Apple.

Mark is the author of ‘The Primal Blueprint’.  The ‘Primal’ diet is slightly more relaxed than the Paleo diet and is a great approach for first getting into Palo, or for if you don’t have any health issues and just want to maximise your health and performance.  Mark has many inspirational stories from readers of his blog.

Latest in Pleo is Angelo Coppola’s witty news line up of all that’s happened in paleo land.  This is his podcast which is hosted by 5by5 tv.  You can find Angelo’s website at ‘Latest in Paleo’.

Kurt Harris MD has a blog and website over at Archevore.  As well as a huge range of highly detailed posts on all aspects of nutrition and lifestyle, Kurt has the ‘Archevore’ diet, which is a 12 step process you can undertake to arrive at a vastly improved diet, based on our current knowledge of health and nutrition.  His diet is extremely well thought out and reasoned and everyone would benefit from taking a look at it.

Chris Kresser practices acupuncture and integrative medicine in Berkley, California.  He has a website, ‘Chris Kresser’, which has some great articles and resources.  He has a regular podcast which, like the podcasts mentioned above, can be downloaded from iTunes.  Chris says his favourite nutrition book is ‘The Perfect Health diet’.

Thyroid UK: “Providing information and resources to promote effective diagnosis and appropriate treatment for people with thyroid disorders in the UK”.

I regularly recommend probiotics to my patients with food intolerances, leaky gut, allergies, and so on.  After researching this area I recommend Protexin Probiotics as seeming to be the best on the market.  If you go to their site they have a lot of good information as well as letting you buy direct from them.

Chris Masterjohn’s website is a great resource for any one with a concern for their blood lipids, heart and circulatory health: The Daily Lipid.
